Activators are simple mote cores that implement the Monjolo operating principle. They contain a microcontroller, 802.15.4 radio, antenna, and an FRAM chip.

The activator boards are designed to be powered by an energy-harvesting power supply and to keep track of activations. Periodically they transmit the count of wakeups to a receiver.

Event Detection

We are extending the activator platform to create energy-harvesting event detectors. These systems charge up the power supply and wait for some trigger to occur. Upon triggering, they transmit a packet to notify a central receiver that the event happened. Our initial designs target motion events, such as someone sitting in a chair or opening a door.
